Descriptions

Kandis (Beaked Kandis) is an evergreen tree with a moderately hard to very hard and a moderately heavy to very heavy timber. The timber is classified under medium hardwood. It is used for the construction of posts for fencing. The species is also suitable for a semi-permanent heavy construction involving a temporary bridge and extraction tramway.

 

Naturally, Kandis lives in a wild and native habitat to a terrestrial of Malaysia rainforest. At the contemporary landscape, this forestry tree is commonly planted in a park and garden for shading and aesthetic significance. The red colour of the young shoots may add value to the visual quality of Kandis.    

 

The ethnobotanical value of Kandis is that both shoots and fruits are edible.

 

The tree prefers a well-drained of fertile loamy soils for healthy growth. Apart from that, Kandis favours a planting area that is exposed to full sun or a semi-shaded environment. It is propagated from seed.
