Descriptions

Perah ikan (Flushing perah) is soft to moderately hard with light to moderately heavy timber. The timber is good for both light and temporary constructions. Apart from that, it is used for interior trim, lining, shelving, joinery, and etc. The timber is suitable for the low impact constructions. Perah ikan shares a similar family with a rubber tree.

The tree can be found in the primary and secondary Malaysia rainforests. It is the native habitat of a mixed dipterocarp forest and forest edges. The ethnobotanical significance of Perah ikan is that the seed is edible, while the sticky latex in bark, leaves and fruit stalks has medicinal implication.

The ornamental flowers of Perah ikan enhance the aesthetic value of a landscape. Perah prefers a full sun environment for successful growth and propagates from seed.
